Movement is Medicine

Movement serves a distinct purpose for this reason alone, we need to take care of what helps us with this endeavor! Movement is medicine. Particularly, at times in our lives when something about the body isn't working well. Our muscles, joints, and tissues need to be both strong and supple to support movement. In addition, that strength and fluidity should encompass all ranges of motion. According to Dr. Libby Hinsley (physical therapist and yoga therapist), "being sedentary and becoming deconditioned can be chemically irritating to the body's tissues. If our tissues don't move much, then cellular by-products don't get flushed out as efficiently, and the local chemistry of those tissues becomes more acidic, which is itself an irritant."
Yoga asanas or postures allow us to embody different shapes in various planes of movement. For example, did you know there are about 8 directions you can and should move your spine? Join me for any live or recorded practice by exploring this link. Live classes are listed under "offerings" and recorded classes are listed under the "on demand" section. I've even added a new section with "on demand" myofascial release/self massage for the tissues. Explore here: https://feelthepeaceyoga.lynsirota.com/
