Advasana or prone pose is relaxation on the belly. The shoulders melt toward the earth and the elbows are bent to further disengage the shoulders. This pose can be preparatory for back bends or transitional to move to seated asanas (postures). It's a great shape to really connect with the earth, breathing energy downward. Anatomically, the human body has more lung tissue in the back of the body than in the front. When you're on your belly, your lungs have more room to expand and the blood flow and airflow become equal. "Proning" has been used for years in hospital settings and more recently to help patients with COVID. When was your last tummy time?
