It may come as no surprise that I ask myself this question throughout the day. As one who has struggled with shoulder issues for years. I believe it started and progressed when I was writing Children's Books (and articles for children's magazines) for a living (sorry author friends). My deadlines were tight and my research was vast. Thus, I spent too much time with my shoulders out of alignment while seated at my desk and computer. Where are your shoulders right now as you read this blog post? Are they relaxed? Are they forward? Do you move them in all planes of movement? I've been on a long hiatus from writing and try to only be on the computer for short spurts. In series classes for the last 3 weeks we've been focused on the anatomy of the shoulders (the bones, the muscles, how the shoulders move, and sharing tips for healthy shoulders). Because you're tuning in, I'll share a few with you right now. Join series classes for more expansive information and to study and move with me. Here are two tips from the list:

1. Balance strength and suppleness. Balance might translate to weight and/or resistance training and suppleness might translate to massage (including therapy balls) and, of course, yoga! A balanced yoga practice will include both strength and suppleness, depending upon the goal/intention.

2. Know your alternatives for arm raising for when you need them. Listen to instructor cues as suggestions when taking movement classes. Listen, and then discern. Also be discerning about who is leading your movement. Are they trained? What is the extent of their training and how well-versed are they in content, mechanics, and delivery.
