Breathe Through Your Nose

You often hear me saying this in yoga classes. Traditionally most breathing or pranayama practices involve breathing through the nose with just a few exceptions, like when we're doing release breaths. Breathing through your nose has some very important physiological benefits.

*It increases production of Nitric Oxide in the paranasal sinuses.

*Nitric oxide is a potent vasodilator which widens blood vessels.

*Nose breathing helps to improve pulmonary blood flow.

*Nose breathing improves oxygen uptake and carbon dioxide release in the alveoli.

*The nose has antimicrobial properties that provide a first line of defense against airborne pathogens.

*Nostril valving (like alternate nostril breathing) amplifies all of these benefits.*

Join me in a yoga practice today, by checking out my new offerings here: https://feelthepeaceyoga.lynsirota.com/offerings.

We do breathing practices in all my classes. There is one new class listed and a brand new series (both mat and chair), Yoga for Bone Health/Wellness.

Come breathe with me!
